Overview of Calcination Equipment

Calcination equipment consists of high-temperature industrial furnaces or kilns (typically 800°C–1300°C+) used to thermally treat solid materials, usually in a controlled atmosphere or limited air. It induces chemical dissociation (like releasing from limestone), removes volatile impurities, or alters material phases.

Product Specification

We offers the following product specifications:

Common types

Rotary Kiln Dryer

Rotary kiln dryer is a kind of calcination equipment, generally a rotary cylinder type, placed on the support device to rotate, so it is also called "rotary kiln dryer". The specifications of rotary kiln dryers can be divided into: straight rotary kiln dryers and reducable rotary kiln dryers. The rotary kiln dryer is mainly used for calcining and roasting operations in the cement industry, gold chemical industry, and calcareous stone building materials industry, with a working temperature of more than 1100 °C Celsius.

Single-cylinder Cooler

The single-cylinder cooler is mainly used to cool the high-temperature materials discharged from the rotary kiln to the downstream conveyor, storage warehouse, and the temperature that can be withstood by the next process, and at the same time recover the high-temperature materials into the firing system, improve the thermal efficiency of the entire firing system, and improve the grindability of the material and reduce the grinding power consumption.

Commonly Calcined Materials

Rotary kilns are extremely flexible thermal processing devices, and are capable of processing a wide variety of materials. Some of the materials commonly calcined in a rotary kiln include:

  • Technical Ceramics
  • Kaolin Clay
  • Refractories
  • Alumina
  • Spodumene Ore

Application

Cement Production
One of the most prominent and energy-intensive applications of calcination is in cement manufacturing. Limestone (calcium carbonate) undergoes thermal decomposition in a lime kiln at temperatures exceeding 900°C to produce calcium oxide (lime), a foundational ingredient in Portland cement.

Metallurgical Processing
Calcination is essential in the extraction and refinement of non-ferrous metals such as zinc, lead, copper, and aluminum. Metal carbonates or hydroxides are calcined to produce oxides, which are then reduced to pure metals via smelting or electrolysis.

Activated Carbon Production

Calcination serves as a key step in producing activated carbon from organic precursors like coconut shells, wood, or coal. The process removes volatile compounds and develops a porous structure essential for adsorption.

Synthetic Fertilizer Manufacturing

In the fertilizer industry, calcination of phosphate rock is crucial for producing phosphoric acid and soluble phosphate fertilizers such as triple superphosphate (TSP) and diammonium phosphate (DAP).

Ceramics and Glass Manufacturing

Raw materials such as clay, feldspar, and silica are calcined to eliminate structural water, carbonates, and other volatiles, improving dimensional stability and sintering behavior.

Precautions

Daily inspection

Whether the vibration motor bolts and springs are loose, and whether there are cracks in the groove.

Lubrication

Regularly replenish motor bearing grease (such as lithium-based grease).

Shutdown maintenance

Clean the material accumulation in the tank and check the wear of the liner.

Insufficient feeding volume

Check whether the adjustment of the motor eccentric block is consistent and whether the voltage is stable.

Abnormal noise

Fasten the bolts and check whether the spring or liner is broken.

Motor overheating

Check whether the bearings are lubricated or overloaded.
